The Roots of Faith - Course Overview

The Roots of Faith: Exploring the Bible from Beginning to End

The Roots of Faith is the extended version of The Story of Hope that includes 100 stories from the Bible’s Big Story of redemption, 50 from the Old Testament and 50 from the New Testament.  We sometimes call it “a Biblical centipede that doesn’t limp” because every era in the Bible’s Big Story is included, even the 400 years between the Old and New testaments.  Each of the 100 stories is summarily illustrated by one of the images from our new, high quality Good Soil image collection.

The Roots of Faith focuses on…

  • Confronting non-Biblical “worldview noise” with the theological truths revealed in the Bible.
  • Unfolding these theological truths in the way they were progressively revealed to us in Scripture.
  • Building a Biblically-based root system in unbelievers-seekers so they can genuinely respond in faith to the God of the Bible and in His Son Jesus, as their Savior.
  • Deepening a Biblically-based root system in believers so they can be equipped to share God’s Big Story of redemption boldly and clearly with people who so desperately need to hear and understand it.

In essence, The Roots of Faith does with the entire Bible what the Apostle John did in ordering key events in the “life of Jesus” in the Gospel of John.

“…these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God….” (John 20:31)

But does The Roots of Faith replace The Story of Hope?  No, not at all.  It is simply the third major piece in the Good Soil trilogy that has been planned since the beginning of the Good Soil project:

  • The Story of Hope: Discovering the Provision in God’s Plan
  • The Way to Joy: Pursuing Basic Steps to Discipleship
  • The Roots of Faith: Exploring the Bible from Beginning to End

While it can be used one-on-one or in self-study, The Roots of Faith is basically designed for group study, especially for grounding believers and evangelizing seekers in churches ministering in pagan-worldview contexts.   Each story study (lesson) covers two 8 ½ x 11 pages (one double page spread)—which includes all of the Biblical text used in the study.
