Importance of the Bible’s Story Line in Evangelism with Pluralists

From Telling the Truth: Evangelizing Postmoderns, Edited by D.A. Carson Chapter Three - By Harold Netland and Keith E. Johnson  Quotes from pages 58-59: Pluralist = A person who holds the view that no one religious perspective or figure is normative for all people and that each religion can be valid for its followers. It is crucial that we present the gospel to informal pluralists within the framework of the Bible's story line. There are at least two reasons for this.

  • First, apart from the Bible's story line, the content of the gospel makes little sense to biblically illiterate pluralists.
  • Second, many informal pluralists assume that the exclusivity of Christianity is another manifestation of ethnocentrism.
